Emma Jenkins

Emma studied Anatomy at Otago University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours in 1999. Upon graduation, she decided a more sociable career was in order and instead pursued her passion for wine.

Emma worked for seven years as a Fine Wine and Education Specialist at Scenic Cellars in Taupo, New Zealand's premier independent wine store and in that time studied Winemaking and Viticulture at Hawke's Bay’s EIT.

In 2006 Emma established The Wine School in partnership with Jane Skilton MW to teach both general and the more specialised WSET courses to both the trade and consumers.

In 2011, Emma became New Zealand’s ninth Master of Wine.  The research for her dissertation topic Is there a case for sub-regional Marlborough sauvignon blanc? has ensured most Marlborough producers now quail at the sight of her name in their inboxes.

Emma continues to hone her skills judging wine both at local and international competitions, is editor of The Independent Wine Monthly, providing forthright independent commentary and reviews, and provides freelance writing services as well corporate and commercial wine consultancy to a wide range of sectors and companies.
