Returning home to Adelaide, Jonathan Hesketh has decided to forge a career as a négociant-éleveur, sourcing permium grapes from key wine regions and producing wine under his own label.
Whilst not limiting himself to Australia (an Austrian Gruner Veltliner is in the pipeline) the first red wine releases come from an area Hesketh knows intimately.
The 2005 McLaren Vale Usual Suspects Shiraz is a blend of 93% Shiraz and 7% Viognier, with McLaren Vale's hallmark aromas of dark chocolate, crème de cassis and eau de vie with a whiff of black pepper lurking in the background.
Rich and satisfying yet with a degree of elegance and poise. Definitely a label to watch.
